Static dissipative materials are used because. Because of the low electrical resistance electrons flow easily across the surface and can be grounded safely. Esd rubber mats are the most widely used mat material because they have a high resistance to heat and most chemicals. Insulative materials are defined as those having a surface resistivity of at least 1 x 10 12 ω sq or a volume resistivity of at least 1 x 10 11 ω cm.
