Stained Wooden Floors

Stained wooden floors. They are usually the result of standing water and are most likely to occur when the finish has worn thin. There s no better way to make wood floors feel elevated than by adding a dark stain. On the flip side waxing hardwood floors doesn t create a very durable finish. Hydrogen peroxide may bleach the section of your floor.
Most of the staining hardwood floors cost goes for tools and renting the buffer so recoating floors in two rooms costs only a few bucks more than recoating one room. You can even mix wood stain in with the wax to color your floors while you finish them. Scrub the bleach into the stain with a toothbrush. Recoating a typical floor 200 sq.

As you can see from the photo above right the more porous springwood stains considerably darker than the dense latewood giving the boards a distinct zebra striped look. When contrasted with a light wall a dark floor helps to make the room feel brighter and taller. Let the floor dry then stain wax and buff by hand. Or so is about half the cost of sanding and refinishing it. Make sure the toothbrush is clean and unused so you don t get any stains on the wood.
Red oak and white oak floors absorb stain more uniformly but be aware that there is a difference between the density of earlywood or springwood and latewood of these species. For floors finished with wax or penetrating stains very gently rub the water stain on the wood with 000 steel wool and wax. Soak a piece of cloth in hydrogen peroxide and place over the stain overnight or at least 8 hours during the day. Clean the surface of the floor.
Repeat for longer hours if the stain is resistant. Dip a clean toothbrush into the bleach and swirl it around. A rich brown or graphite floor grounds a room and from a practical standpoint hides any imperfections in an existing floor. Carefully vacuum up dust and grit from the sanding process and then wipe down the floor with a tack cloth to pick up any remaining dust.
Clean the sanded area with 00 steel wool and mineral spirits or a wood floor cleaner. 7 apply stain according to label directions with a brush or rag working the stain into the wood.
