Slab ceramics box. Slab objects are left to dry evenly before bisque firing for at least 7 days turning regularly. Box is handmade from porcelain painted with black underglaze carved and then fired to cone 6. The slab building technique involves rolling out clay to an even thickness usually 1 cm then cutting shapes folding bending manipulating and joining together to form a finished object. Slab rollers are large pieces of equipment that enable potters to roll large slabs to uniform thicknesses rapidly.

Set the slab roller to roll the clay through the slab roller. Gather a large amount of clay that will be rolled into a flat slab. Using slab pottery templates to assemble forms i assemble the slabs to form the bottom and sides of the box using slip 3 and rib the joints together on the outside of the box using a serrated rib 4.
Next i add coils to the joints on the inside of the box and smooth the coils using my finger and water. Turn the clay so the long edge is against the roller. The resulting slabs are not uniform in thickness and can give a handmade feel to a piece.
