Peltier Marble Seams

Peltier marbles are treasured by many marble collectors for their colorful variety and complex beauty.

Peltier marble seams. The white swirls occur on the surface of the marble as well inside it. First made in the 1920 s and continued into the early 30 s. Both the peltier marble company and the christensen marble company tried to produce a marble in an effort to compete with japanese cat s eyes and both company first effort were a failure. Their ribbons and seams are easily recognized.

They are a transparent colored base glass with opaque white swirled. Christensen slags are identifiable by their seams. The twelve characters in ascending order of rarity are emma koko bimbo smitty andy herbie skeezix annie sandy betty moon and kayo. The earliest peltier marbles are single stream.

The top left marble was so busy that it almost looked like it had three seams but that s a different subject. They may have two or they may have only one. They can be differentiated from peltier slags because they do not have the fine feathering of the white glass that the latter possess.

Also one of the seams looks. Peltier slags are single stream marbles as are the slags of other companies. Usually there is an overglaze of clear glass. I finally found the second true seam and got that photo.

Peltier s was the clear national lined rainbow marble and christensen s was the what we call today as the christensen cobra. These are peltier peerless patches with a black transfer of one of twelve different king syndicate comic characters fired on the marble surface. However some of their marbles such as the national line rainbos see below are extremely rare in peewee under 1 2 or shooter over 3 4 sizes. They are usually referred to as miller marbles because they were produced using peltier s first marble machine designed by an employee named miller.

Peltier marble sizes seem to be more variable than those of most other companies and they produced many peewee marbles in diminutive sizes for the most part not seen from other major manufacturers. The top left one is a national line rainbo aka nlr from around 1930 give or take a couple of years.
